Hello friends! This week I'm taking some time between fulfiling orders and getting ready for the busy holiday season to hone my chops on some flush mount settings. I spent a couple weeks at the New Approach School for Jewelers in Franklin, Tennessee this summer and I'm quite excited to put techniques like this into play in a future collection. I'm thinking about designing some engagement and wedding wings. Flush mounts are a great setting for putting small stones into bands. In a flush mount, the stone is set so that the flat part at the top of a faceted stone (the table), is "flush" with the surface of the ring. This prevents the stone from being damaged by everyday wear. It's a great way to incorporate several stones into the design of a band. I'm not sure exactly where I'm headed with this technique, but it's been a lot of fun to experiment and I'm sure I'll be using it in the future.
